RAM NAVAMI VIOLENCE IN HOWRAH REPORT 2023 ------ Utank Banerjee
Summary
The evening of
30th March 2023 turned into a nightmare for the residents of Kazipara and
surrounding areas in Howrah, as violence erupted and engulfed the streets. A
peaceful procession of Ram Bhakts passing through the area was attacked with
stones and glass bottles by an Islamist mob, injuring innocent men, women, and
children. The situation quickly deteriorated as the mob went on a rampage,
burning cars, bikes, and shops belonging to Hindus. The violence was calculated
and pre-planned, as only shops belonging to Hindus were targeted. The local
police were overpowered, and the mob even hurled bombs in the area. Amidst this
chaos, the Anjani Putra Organisation stepped up to defend the Hindus from the
violent mob. More than 70 people were severely injured, including women and
small children, and the incident has left a deep scar on the local community.
Detailed Description
The incident
that occurred on March 30, 2023, in Howrah has left many in shock and despair.
It was a day when the peaceful procession of Ram Bhakts was mercilessly
attacked by the Islamist Mob, who had pre-planned to create chaos and
destruction. The violence started around 5:30 PM and soon escalated into a
full-blown rampage, affecting the lives of innocent people, especially those
belonging to the Hindu community.
The violence,
originated from from Kazipara and extended till the G.T. Road. The violence
reached its zenith at the Aloka Cinema area and continued till Bangabasi.
As the
procession of Ram Bhakts was passing through Kazipara, the Islamist Mob began
pelting stones and even sharp broken glass bottles with the intention to harm
the peaceful procession. Despite police intervention, the situation escalated
as the Islamist Mob overpowered them.
In a display of
utter disregard for humanity, small children who participated in the procession
were thrashed and targeted by the Islamist Mob. The violence was calculated and
pre-planned, as only shops belonging to Hindus were vandalised. Bombs were also
hurled near Kazipara.
More than 70
innocent people, including women and small children, were severely injured
during the violence. The Islamist Mob burned down cars, small trucks, bikes,
and Totos of Hindus. They also pelted stones at residential complexes,
disturbing the lives of innocent people.
As the Islamist
Mob approached an area where they intended to hurt Hindus, the Anjani Putra
Organisation defended them out of private defence. The organisation's efforts
prevented further damage to property and potential loss of life.
Conclusion
These events
were a serious threat to the safety and wellbeing of the people of Howrah.
Immediate action by law enforcement and the government was necessary to quell
the violence and restore order. The actions of the Islamist Mob had
far-reaching consequences, with the state's economy suffering due to the
destruction of public property. It is the responsibility of the authorities to
ensure that such incidents do not recur and to protect the lives and property
of innocent civilians.
